Abu road is the rail head for Mount Abu, which is about 28 km from here. The station was built by the Rajputana Malwa Railway company in 1880. The name of the town here was Kharadi in those days, but the station was named Abu Road.

Shantivan in Abu road is an important Brahmakumaris center. Abu Road is also significant for Jains as there are many Jain pilgrimages in the surrounding areas including Pavapuri and Mount Abu.
